What is a TPI Screening?

Here’s a quick overview.

Our Level 1 TPI Screening and Fitness Assessment is a 60–90 minute evaluation designed to assess how your physical body influences your golf swing, and to give you a benchmark (a “fitness handicap”) that aligns with TPI standards

1. Initial Consultation

  • A TPI-certified professional will start by asking about your golf background, swing goals, any pain or injuries, and health history.

2. Movement Screening

  • A standardized 16‑point TPI Level 1 screen where you’ll perform controlled movements and position tests that assess mobility, stability, balance, and motor control across key areas—hips, torso, shoulders, pelvis, wrists, spine, and more.

3. Video Swing Analysis

  • Your swing is recorded from multiple angles and analyzed frame-by-frame for TPI’s “Big 12” swing characteristics, such as early extension, S‑posture, reverse spine angle, sway/slide, casting, and shoulder plane issues.
  • The goal is to link each physical limitation to how it may manifest in your swing mechanics.

4. Report & Fitness Handicap

  • You’ll receive a detailed written report, outlining your test scores and how they compare to PGA/LPGA averages.
  • A fitness handicap score—typically between +7 and 36—is assigned to track improvement over time.

1. Customized Training Plan

  • Based on the assessment, you’re given a personalized exercise program with drills to improve areas where you’re weak (e.g. rotational mobility, core stability) and maintain strengths.
  • This often includes mobility work, stability exercises, flexibility routines, and corrective movement patterns.

2. Integration with Instruction

  • A key part of the process is collaborating with a golf instructor or coach to align your physical improvements with swing mechanics—ensuring your improved mobility or stability transfers to the swing itself

3. Follow-Up Re-Screening

  • After about 6 weeks, a follow-up screening is typically recommended to reassess your mobility and update your program as needed—potentially tracking changes in your fitness handicap
